AUTHOR MEET AND GREET

LIBRARY

Our recent author greet and meet at the East Syracuse Free Library was a big success, and has paved a path for local writers to meet twice a year to display, sell, and autograph their books. I’d like to offer a special thanks to the director, Laurie Thompson Rachetta, who happens to be an old high school classmate of mine. Without her, the whole thing wouldn’t have been possible. She has expressed interest to hold the event twice a year for all local authors who want to participate.

In August, I’ll begin a list of interested parties. If you are a local author looking for a place to sell, this is a good opportunity. We all know how hard it is in this area to find book signings with a lack of Indie bookstores.

DON

Don Massenzio and friends

I’d also like thank my good friend, Don Massenzio, who also happens to be an old classmate of mine, for helping spread the word, and bring in lots of followers to the event. It was his idea to put this event together, and I can’t thank him enough for all that he’s done to help my writing career as well. Seven local authors attended the event, and most sold at least a couple books, but the real success was the fellowship and helpful hints we gave and got from each other during the event. What a great group!

I’ll be posting more pictures from the event next week. I’m already looking forward to our next one in September or October! I love it when a plan comes together!

THE REAL” INDEPENDENCE DAY”

DID GEORGE HAVE AN EXTRATERRESTRIAL ENCOUNTER?

With the coming of the July 4th holiday, I thought it would be fun to bring up some paranormal facts about our country’s patriotic history. It is two part series about interesting facts of spirits, UFOs, and alien encounters surrounding our famous forefathers.

During the battle of Valley Forge, it is said that General George Washington encountered a strange revelation while sitting in a cabin used for a military base headquarters during this famous battle. Some versions credit it towards a spiritual encounter, such as angels, and others claim he saw a glowing, hovering ball of light which came to rest on a hill, and a glowing being emerged from the ball and talked to him. Other versions say it was a dead indian chief who came to warn him of the future events to take place.

The below passage  was taken from his diary. Some claim he didn’t write it, but officers often had scribes write for them to save time in the battlefield. Either way, it is interesting that he never specifies “what”the being actually is in the passage:

“I do not know whether it is owing to the anxiety of my mind, or what, but
this afternoon, as I was sitting at this table engaged in preparing a
dispatch, something in the apartment seemed to disturb me. Looking up, I
beheld standing opposite me a singularly beautiful being. So astonished
was I, for I had given strict orders not to be disturbed that it was some
moments before I found language to inquire the cause of the visit. A
second, a third, and even a fourth time did I repeat my question, but
received no answer from my mysterious visitor except a slight raising of the eyes.” “By this time I felt strange sensations spreading through me. I would have risen but the riveted gaze of the being before me rendered volition impossible. I assayed once more to speak, but my tongue had become useless, as if paralyzed. A new influence, mysterious, potent, irresistible, took possession of me. All I could do was to gaze steadily, vacantly at my unknown visitor.”

The real identity of the being is vague from the passage, but there are similarities to alien encounters. The temporary paralysis, the glowing ball that appears to hover, and so on. But there is also the spiritual possibility, as he was praying before the incident occurred. One can only wonder what really happened, as there were no photographs then, tape recorders, or anything else that would’ve provided sufficient evidence.

BEN

But was George the only one who might have believed in aliens? Ben Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson all belonged to a private club called “The Lunar Society.” They would discuss scientific ideas, and life on other planets. To Franklin, ever the thinker, belief in extraterrestrials was not only an interesting topic of conversation, but an essential view of the new world.

In 1728, he wrote “For I believe that Man is not the most perfect Being but One, rather that as there are many Degrees of Beings his Inferiors, so there are many Degrees of Beings superior to him.”

It is also true of the Native Americans who spoke of visitors from the heavens who came to instill peace among the tribes, and some even believed they were descendants of these beings.

What is my view of our founding fathers believing in aliens? It is probably a misinterpreted passage, but there could be a real possibility this could be genuine.  Astronomy was a relatively new science, but the fact remains that our forefathers did have knowledge of other worlds, through the studies of Galileo and Copernicus. To believe in life on other planets wasn’t farfetched at the time. but what about Washington’s experience?

There is a real possibility that he was delusional at the time. he admits in the passage that is anxious with worry, and the fact the troops had been starving, cold, and tired could have contributed to hallucinations. There was also sickness within the camp as well. I’m not trying to dismiss what he could’ve possibly saw, only giving a possible explanation. What do you think? Did ET and our first president have a cabinet meeting together, or is this story just a bunch of bunk, like the cherry tree?

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS OF RECENT EVENTS

Nick Mugshot

In the past few months, there has been a spike of violence throughout the country. Although this isn’t my usual type of post, I would like to offer my take on several events that have occurred recently.  The gunmen in LA  and Orlando, and recently at a movie theater have caused a spark in the idea of gun control. Even in my home town of Syracuse, NY, there was a near riot the other night because a police officer shot a father in the back. In all fairness of the officer, however, the man was armed, and had an argument with someone at the party.

This spark in violence has caused Republicans and Democrats to be very divided on the issue of gun control, as we’ve seen in the last congress session Wednesday. It would seem simple to just ban those on the no fly list from buying guns; if it weren’t for the second amendment. This guarantees citizens the right to protect themselves from foreign or DOMESTIC  influences that might threaten them.

Now, some people may argue that there is no reason to worry about our own government, so there should be no guns. This argument is  false, because people don’t believe there could ever be martial law; and that’s their first mistake.  We have already seen martial law in the event of Hurricane Katrina, and the more recent violent storms and wildfires. But we’re not talking about disasters here; we’re talking about an all out takeover of the American people.

I know what you’re thinking. Here he goes again about some crazy conspiracy theory like aliens taking over, or a world war. But it’s not as far fetched as you think. Isis is training people here everyday, and gaining power everyday. Even though the gunman in Orlando wasn’t directly connected to Isis, his father was, and he was obviously brought up to believe that this sort of violence is acceptable behavior. And we know the gunman in LA was directly connected to Isis, and was planning the attack for years.

So what do I think about all of this? I don’t like guns, but they are a necessary evil. I’ve even toyed with the idea of applying for a pistol permit myself, although I would have never considered it when my daughter was growing up. As we’ve seen many times, loaded guns and kids are a bad mix.  If you own guns, the best place for them is a locked gun cabinet, and if they must be loaded, they need to be in a safe place where kids can’t gain access to them.

Gun safety is especially important. I’ve seen kids who handle weapons well, but only after they’ve learned safety and how to respect the rules; not aiming a gun at someone, whether loaded or not, and not using them to settle anger issues. When I was a kid, at my school, I don’t remember settling any fights with anything else but fists. Now, if you look at someone wrong, they could pull a gun out and shoot you. What has happened to this world?.

One possible cause is the surge in diagnosis of mental disorders, and psychotropic medicine. Some antidepressants have the adverse effect, causing patients to become violent and uncooperative. I feel that more thorough background checks for mental issues needs to be addressed. Gun control isn’t the answer. New York has some of the toughest gun control laws in the country, and still has one of the highest murder rates as well.

Now, I’ve probably lost a lot of you that are totally against guns, but I can sympathize with what you’re saying. But remember what Ben Franklin said about corrupt governments. “Those who sacrifice liberty for safety deserve neither.” Smart man, Ben Franklin, too bad he wasn’t alive and running for president. He’s  a better choice than what this election has to offer. Have a great weekend, and if you’re in the Syracuse area tomorrow, please join me for our local author book signing with nine local authors.

WHAT IS IT?

A friend of mine from Central Square filmed this the other evening during a violent thunderstorm with winds close to 80 mph. She stated she was driving, and it appeared to be hovering, then flew off quickly. I said to her due to her proximity to the Fort Drum base, it could be a drone or weather balloon. She was with her husband who also saw it. UFOs have sometimes been seen in areas of violent weather, or in areas of volcanic or earthquake activity. It certainly is an interesting video, however. What do you think? Is it a weather balloon,a drone, extraterrestrial or secret military project, or something else?

UPCOMING EVENTS

This Saturday, I have the pleasure of hosting a local author meet and greet at the East Syracuse Library, in East Syracuse, NY. There will be nine writers there, and will be from 12-2pm. I’d like to offer a special thanks to Don Massenzio, author of the Frank Rozanni detective series for helping to put it together and posting  a page on facebook under the heading “Local Author Book signing.”

This is just one of the many events that I have lined up for the summer. I am proud to announce that I’ll be at the local City Market in Armory Square, Syracuse, NY for three separate days on July 10th, Aug. 13th, and September 12th. I also have a tentative date at the NY State Fair Aug.28th, but this hasn’t been finalized yet.

On July 23rd, I’ll be at the Lewis County Fairgrounds in Lowville, NY, representing the Lowville Library and selling and signing copies of my books. I will also schedule another book signing in the fall for release of my new children’s book, “Wacky Wild Tales.”

I have created a display poster for these events, which took considerable time to create, and I feel captures the essence of my science fiction series. I hope to have a productive and profitable year, as I branch out into other areas besides local book signings. I look forward to seeing my local fans, as well as those visiting from out of state.

On the musical side, I may have a regular gig at a nursing home playing 50’s and 60’s music. It all depends on my performance whether I’ll be there on a regular basis or not.

Tomorrow on my blog, I will have a personal post of reflections on  recent events that have occurred, and how they have affected myself as well. Until then, have a great day.
